Understanding clearly the pros and cons of vlogging, I am continuing to follow these Korean vloggers. However, I need to distinguish and recognize what is proper for myself and what is not. Therefore, I do not have to waste time and money on doing the inappropriate things. Every individual is a special one different from others so we do not have to become someone else but the best version of ourselves. By acquiring valuable things from vloggers, we can become a much more knowledgeable and charming people. Moreover, these vlogs help us to relax after a long day working and studying.

In fact, there are some cultural elements related to why Korean beauty vlogs and other kinds of vlogs are becoming more and more popular. There is a saying existing for such a long time ago in Korea: “A good-looking rice cake will be more pleasant to eat”. Hence, looks and appearances are extremely vital to Korean people in society. Day by day, it has officially become one of cultural characteristics. Some Korean women said that they could not leave home without makeup. Therefore, beauty tips are what they need in real life. Besides, Korean people’s lifestyles are enjoying their lives and entertaining after working hours. As a result, other kinds of vlogs are also attractive and well-liked.

Regarding vlogging, it has been indicated as a widely current tendency across the world. There are many kinds of vlogs including beauty, traveling, food, fashion, … Vlog is simply a video posted on many websites such as youtube or facebook to show an individual’s views or actions about something he or she is interested in. These videos can be about makeup routines, skincare tips, where to eat delicious food at a particular place, recommendations about love or life, ... As social media has been continuously developed, there is a phrase called MMO standing for making money online. As a result, vlogging has become a fascinating part-time job for people to invest in. One remarkable thing to note is that even some famous people have become a true vlogger in Korea these days. It is basically known that the more viewers vloggers have, the more money they make.
In general, there are many rationales why some vloggers are more well-known than other vloggers. Firstly, the vloggers tend to concentrate more on a field which they have more experience and knowledge about. Not being scripted, these videos are usually made naturally and spontaneously. Secondly, the fact discussed in the video must be unique or genuine. The subjects are what really happens to the vloggers in real life and what they actually think about.
Besides, some famous vloggers increase their subscribers by extending other kind of subjects in their videos. According to Tatiana (2016), top eight most famous Korean beauty vloggers are Meejmuse, Joan Keem, Sunny’s Channel, Lamuqe, Liah Yoo, So Young’s Beauty Room, Dayeong’s Beauty Drawing and Pony Makeup. Meanwhile, the followers are commonly the young who wants to learn how to become more beautiful or simply want to know where to eat delicious food or where to travel. Besides, some people watching these videos simply for relaxation.

It is quite clear that there are both advantages and disadvantages to become a follower of these Korean vlogs. I have currently become a follower of different Korean vloggers. Basically, followers can know more about beauty tips, travel places, psychological advices via these videos. They can also explore themselves after watching these vlogs to become a more attractive and charming person. As Korean cultures are different, they can gain more knowledge about Korean language as well as Korean lifestyles and behaviors. Moreover, there are many video guiding people to do exercise rightly and to eat clean in order to improve their health. However, there are some dark sides related to these popular vloggers. It is important to know that these vloggers’ share about their daily habits might not be suitable for other people because we are basically different from one another. For instance, these vloggers introduce exercise tips to lose weight; however, there are many people doing the same way but still can not lose weight like them. In addition, the climate in Korea is significantly different from other countries’ climate; therefore, skin types are also varied. Following that, some beauty tips recommended by these Korean vloggers might be inappropriate for some foreign followers. In terms of food vlogs, tastes are different among countries so Vietnamese followers might not find these Korean foods introduced by vloggers delectable.

One of the most interesting things that I have learnt from this course is a special understanding called ‘popular culture’. Generally, popular culture is significantly different from high culture. While high culture reflects complicated ethical and aesthetic reaction, popular culture has been acknowledged to be more easily formed (Storey 2006). Besides, Storey (2006) also indicated that popular culture is merely accepted or tended toward by a large number of people. Moreover, popular culture is actually culture of the masses, whereas the term ‘high culture’ results from the creation of a particular act from an individual. Additionally, Fiske (2010) claimed that popular culture has to be primarily optimistic as people recognize its positive influences on social change and the incentive to try it. In Korea, there are many things recognized as popular culture such as vlogging, pop music as well as dramas. This essay focuses on Korean vlogging which has been emerged for a decade now, especially beauty vlogging.
